More About Me
Quality therapy can be life altering, especially when one is motivated and open to the process of change. It can be challenging to explore underlying beliefs and emotions that perpetuate self-defeating behavior. Psychotherapy can provide fresh insight and objectivity about underlying causes, allowing one to develop a new way of approaching troubling patterns and situations. My role as a therapist is to provide psychological perspective, to facilitate a productive conversation and to teach new skills to support vital life changes.
My approach is to work actively and collaboratively, to identify tangible goals that lead to practical solutions. My hope is that our discussions will be meaningful, lively and thought provoking, even as the content may be emotionally challenging. At the end of most sessions, we will collaborate to design homework, in order to extend or apply the ideas we come to during session.
I enjoy working with adults of all ages who are trying to balance personal needs, relationships, family and career. Young adults come to me because they want to develop a more grounded sense of self and are looking for meaning and direction in work and in relationships. I also counsel couples who want to deepen their connection, learn new communication skills, and/or resolve repetitive conflicts, so they can cultivate a resilient and joyful partnership.
My clients have told me they appreciate my straightforward, conversational style of interacting, and warmly inquisitive, and empathically confrontational approach. I bring 30 years experience and enthusiasm to my practice in working with individuals and couples in San Francisco, Oakland, and Lafayette.
