Who We Are

The Therapy Network is a non-profit network of experienced psychotherapists — independent licensed psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers — serving clients in the East Bay, San Francisco and Marin County. When we launched our confidential therapist referral service in 1982, it was the first in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we are still successfully connecting clients with therapists, free of charge.

We are individual practitioners who maintain separate, confidential private practices.. Each prospective member is personally interviewed by the membership before he or she is invited to join the organization. The interview process is designed to determine if therapists are qualified to handle complex cases in ways that are consistent with best clinical and ethical practices. We also screen to make sure that our membership is diverse and provides a wide spectrum of services to our Bay Area community, which has unique needs.

We also meet regularly for clinical discussions and in-service trainings. When we screen phone calls, we know exactly who we are referring you to and why. We know each other's work and know what is likely to be a good fit between clients and our membership.

We make it a policy to stay in regular contact with one another and to keep up to date on our members’ interests and professional development. Our mutual commitments to diversity, open dialogue, and self-reflection — and to the collaborative principles of cooperation and shared responsibility — have kept our referral network strong and vibrant for more than 25 years.

Our matching service works so well because it is grounded in our personal regard for each other, our understanding of each other’s work, and the rich resources available in our members’ truly diverse spectrum of interests, approaches, and expertise. We are confident that we can help you connect with a qualified therapist who is right for you.
